GENERAL OUTLINE

The aim of the Mondial du Theatre is to host a variety of performances, reflecting cultural differences within the international amateur theatre community as well as displaying an exceptional panorama of high quality amateur theatre talent throughout the world.

Thus, the Festival contributes to the “theatre as a means of comprehension and education” which are the aims of the International Association of Amateur Theatre (aita-iata asbl) whose Official Festival it is.

The Festival revolves around three main themes : confrontation, exchanges and teaching :

Confrontation

Each participating company presents a complete theatrical performance, from the national or international repertory, experimental or traditional, classic or modern, published or unpublished, not longer than 60 minutes duration. In accordance with the ideals of aita-iata , it is essential that these performances present a diversity of cultures, scenic forms and dramatic expression.

Exchanges

Debates are held the day after each performance and are chaired by theatre critics of international repute. Open to the public, these colloques enable festival audiences to debate on the play they have seen – the choice of theme, production, characterization, stage technique, etc. - Likewise to discuss the company itself : its origins, history, repertoire, its integration in the country's social and professional life, etc – as well as the general organisation of amateur theatre and its development in the country it represents.

Teaching

This is imparted by means of workshops of a high international standard held daily at the Festival headquarters. These workshops are organised in liaison with the International Amateur Theatre Association, aita-iata asbl, the French Federation of Amateur Theatre (FNCTA) and the Francophone Agency, in order to fulfill the Festival's vocation for promoting educational, cultural and artistic formation. .
